Refurbish Laminate Flooring
I made this video showing how i replaced some warped laminate floor boards in our kitchen.
Refurbish laminate flooring. A laminate floor should be treated like a no wax kitchen floor. Remove moldings to prepare to replace the flooring. The final step is to apply two coats of clear restorative finish using a floor finish applicator or paint pad. Never sand it or the look of the floor will be ruined.
First use a sample of your laminate flooring if you have one to find a touch up or repair kit in a matching color. To repair damaged laminate planks start with drilling a hole on each corner of the damaged laminate plank. Drill two or three more holes on each side of the damaged laminate plank approximately 4 to 5 from each other. Clean the flooring with the solvent and let it dry.
It is known for adding depth and texture within the alignment of the floor. Used in abundance though it can remove the protective seal on your floors. To resurface a laminate floor you want to etch or scuff the old finish to de gloss it. Wipe the damaged part of the floor with a clean damp cloth.
Use the marker crayon putty or pencil in the kit to fill in the scratch. Uninstall the laminate up to the problem zone. Clean the damaged area to remove any dirt from the chip or scratch. It s acidic which isn t the best for your laminate surface but many people swear by a little bit of vinegar and a lot of hot water to cut pet grime.
If you want to recolor laminate flooring you can do it after etching or scuffing. This method works for minor chips and scratches that can be repaired with putty or a marker specifically made to repair laminate flooring. If your kit comes with ingredients that should be mixed together to form a putty or other filler follow the manufacturer s instructions. Don t try to fill the entire chip in one application.
You will want to be as close as possible to the plank end joints. Let the floor dry completely before you proceed. Vinegar is widely debated. This texture gives off the look of a natural hardwood floor.
Next squeeze a dollop of laminate repair paste onto a scrap piece of flooring or a mixing board and mix it with a putty knife until it begins to dry. Clean off any excess with solvent. Then press a shallow layer into the chip. In a good case scenario after fixing the reason of the buckling you can uninstall the planks replace heavily damaged planks and reinstall the rest of the room.
Check the locking system. This kind of laminate ranges from 2 3 00 per square foot.
