Tropical Rainforest Forest Floor
Entering a tropical rainforest we find vertical layers of life each with its own unique structure and composition.
Tropical rainforest forest floor. The forest floor receives very little sunlight. Just above the floor is a thick layer of shrubs small trees and flowering plants. Tropical rainforests such as the amazon are found near the equator in central and south america africa southeast asia and australia. The tropical rainforest floor layer or forest floor is the ground layer of this biome.
They cover approximately six per cent of the earth s surface. Tropical rainforest luxuriant forest found in wet tropical uplands and lowlands near the equator. It is actually rather the opposite. It is a hot humid place where animals like leafcutter ants spend their time foraging for food.
A tropical rainforest typically has a number of layers each with different plants and animals adapted for life in that particular area. Examples include the emergent canopy understory and forest floor layers. The tropical rainforest layer between the forest floor and the canopy is the understory layer and it receives only about 5 of the sunlight. Rainforests usually occur in regions where there is a high annual rainfall of generally more than 1 800 mm 70 inches and a hot and steamy climate.
The tropical rainforest contains far more species of plants and animals than any other biome. A large number of small mammals birds reptiles and predators like the jaguar inhabit this layer. It lies beneath the emergent canopy and understory layers which is the reason why almost no sunlight reaches this area. Worldwide they make up one of earth s largest biomes major life zones.

The tropical rainforest animals fauna live in different layers strata of the jungles. Tropical rainforests are dominated by broad leaved trees that form a dense upper canopy and contain a wide array of vegetation and other life. The understory layer could be described as the middle part of the flora system. The floor is relatively clear of vegetation due to the deep darkness created by perhaps 100 feet 30 m of canopy vegetation above.
